Her last conversation with her rapist
I’m moving to Detroit, I said. We looked at each other for a long time, all the years and friends between us, before I walked to my car. Hey, Michelle, he yelled out. Be careful. That’s a dangerous city.
Michelle trades a few last words with her rapist, before leaving Texas behind. Read more on her blog: http://michellespells.blogspot.com/2008/12/crying-ruins-your-make-up.html.

Me. Music. 2008.
Every year I like to use the Smart Playlists feature in iTunes to find out what my favorite songs of that year were. Why go by what my heart says about the year in music, when I can look at statistics? Check out 2007 for an example. All I do is make a smart list of music with the year set to 2008 and sort by the play count. Simple. Effective.
The list created by this year, however, was...

Oops! Forgot to mention I finally read DC: The New Frontier Vol 2.
Loved it. I can finally watch the great birthday gift I received a few months ago.

– And all that’s at stake are the lives and well being of thousands of American workers and families. So if Tom can sleep at night with that, more power to him. Well, he can also go fuck himself. This is why I couldn’t make it past the introductory chapters of The World is Flat.

Comic book quick hits
Stuff I’ve loved and hated recently:
Secret Invasion #8: Liked. I don’t think company wide crossovers is Bendis’ bag. This would have been a much better story contained in the Avengers books.
The Joker: a hardcover graphic novel by Brain Azzarello, noted writerof many hard crime books. Meh.
Green Lantern- Revenge of the Green Laterns: Loved it. I wish I had been reading this...

I’ve spent much of the last two days working on a labor of love: The Adventures of Princess Cianna. (Needless to say that the real Cianna was not pleased that mommy chose to work on her computer instead of joining her in her expansive tea party in the dining room.) It’s a series of short (very short) stories that started out as a response to “Mommy, please tell me story” at bedtime,...

808's and Heartbreak
I am giving him props for not making a standard hip-hop, but also not going full on pop either. He’s trying to cross over into some sort of fashion, euro-indie, mega-hipster crowd, and I think he’s pulled it off. Jason and Shannon, I feel your embarassment, though to be honest, I’ve thought the Blag was a massive asshole for a good long time.

A note about comments
So JS-Kit, the service I use for comments on the blog here, must have recently changed some shit, because these gray boxes all over the site? That ain’t me.
Comments, in the future, may be put in the post’s permalink page and not on the main madthoughts page. If this sounds like crazy talk, check out Shannon’s blog and click on the “Comments” link under each post for...

Another layoff in the family
Shannon and I have 6 parental units between us. Two still have jobs (one union, the other not), one is retired, and three have been laid off, in some cases, multiple times in just the past few months.
That said, I want to thank everyone who supports the crumbling of the car industry for this great lesson learned. Moving into my thirties with the potential burden of having to help and support my...

Detroit Free Press gets snarky with America’s attitude toward the auto industry asking for a bail-out loan
This is not a gift, a grant or a handout. It’s a loan, the kind of thing financial institutions used to do before they all had to scurry to Washington for their own bailouts, which have been far bigger and subjected to considerably less scrutiny than this loan that the auto...

WOW!
kittykittybangbang:
Oh my lord, Inauguration week is going to be a nightmare.
A measure put forth today by D.C. Councilman Jim Graham - who represents the party-friendly Adams Morgan neighborhood - would allow bars and restaurants licensed to serve alcohol to keep pouring until 5 a.m., and to keep doors open 24-hours per day between Jan. 17 and Jan. 21.
