Quick Review: Flock

The first non-beta release of the Flock browser seems much more solid than
my previous tests. No crashes (so far) and some really interesting features.
Its a social browser, designed to incorporate your “weblife” into a tool
that lets you surf that web life, and contribute to it. Facebook friends
show up in the sidebar, bookmarks can be automatically added to del.icio.us,
write directly to your blog, and a gajillion things more- all in the same
browser window.

It doesn’t do everything fantastic though. The RSS reader is moot in
comparison to something like Google Reader, and unlike the Firefox browser
it is built over, it doesn’t have the breadth of extensions that Firefox
has. Plus, it cannot (as of yet) integrate with myspace, and the one million
and on other social networks out there.

My hope was that this tool would help me preform my job better. If I could
monitor all of the social networks I manage for KaBOOM!, as well as the KaBOOM!
online community
,
but so far it doesn’t seem to allow for new networks to be added.

The concept has amazing promise and I’ll keep an eye out for it, but for my
job, it won’t help my productivity. I’m going to give it a test spin at home
as well, especially now that I have re-vowed to use Flickr.com again.
