A note on how the rest of the country lives

I’m not the healthiest guy, but I’m not that 400lb you only see from the next down on the local news b-roll either.

My larger point was to people who turn there noses up at the gluttonous or obese, that write off this portion of America to be as much of a waste as the Super Sized french fry cartons they leave behind.

All of us liberal, hipster douchebags need to start relating to people more than trying to stand above. Why are we so fat? Marketing, lack of education, culture- all of these mix and feed into one another. Fighting this epidemic is going to require legislation, culture change, and the abilty for those of us NOT afflicted by this physical disorder to start being able to relate to those who are.

I was responding to someone who was playing holier than thou and I wanted to paint myself as the people he was railing against. He can rant and hate “me” as much as he wants. That isn’t going to get “me” any thinner or less wasteful.

So hate me. Hate me and my lifestyle. Hate all the horrible things I’m doing to the world simply by being me.

That’s totally the wrong attitude to have. These bad habits aren’t inherent in your DNA. Bad food is not “you,” it’s just something you’ve been tricked into eating. And this false dichotomy of “you” vs. “them” shouldn’t lead you to continue unhealthy and destructive habits as some sort of revenge against uppity city slickers. Change as much as you can, as often as you can, and do it for yourself and your environment.

I want to repeat that again, because I think a lot of people make bad choices because they think they’re “getting back” at someone or that if they make bad choices they’ll make a “liberal” mad and that will be a victory. The person who will benefit most or suffer most from your choices will always be you.
