Good Responses to my Rev. Wright Rant

“But the argument that Barack Obama should have left this church because Wright is 5% nuts and 95% bran flakes is unfair. Wright’s views are shared by a larger number of people than is fairly assumed, and my guess is that there are surveys out there showing that an unhealthy percentage of folks believe these things. It is unfair to assume that because his job is to spread the word of God, that he doesn’t have the right to believe whatever it is he believes.”

“I think you both make good points and I am going to go back to reading about what overpaid fucktard celebs did today.”

“They all line their pockets on the backs of us, the working shlubs who don’t have the time or ambition to rise up and do anything about it. Why? Because we don’t have it that bad. I sit comfortable in my 3 bedroom house, got food to eat, and a big ass TV. Really that’s all I care about. I guess I’m just selfish.”

“I think it speaks less about Obama’s lack of judgement than about the how difficult it is for folks to square personal beliefs with the rhetoric of the leaders — or former leaders — in their faith communities.”
I think the whole ordeal has upset me because when this controversery started and Obama made his “race speech”, I felt really good. Race, and every awful and wonderful that goes with it, was the center of a national conversation. A bold, conversation that could have moved us all forward.
I’m angry because all of this hullabaloo has taken us back a few steps. Or perhaps I only want to talk about race my way.
