The Enemy Within
There is a growing list of annoyances going on in my building that are slowly turning a great living situation (big space, below average rent, good floors, work to home distance low) into a poor living situation.
The problem is that most of these annoyances aren’t anything the building can do about. Complaining about them isn’t likely to bring much action. I’m asking for sympathy from my apartment managers. At the least, a promise to be better next time.
Yesterday, I grabbed a glass of Coca-cola and my laptop, and went out to my patio to hang out outside for a while. It was hot, but I was tired of sitting in air conditioning and wanted to “real” air for a few minutes. I was very surprised to see a few bugs flying around. I figured they were gnats and sat down anyway.
A few minutes go by, and I realize I am sitting in a horde of not gnats, but mosquitoes. I’m getting chewed alive on my own back porch. This is a new phenomena for our apartment. The problem is the awful job that was done in a recent renovation of our porch. Its essentially unfinished and I believe that the recent storms that we have had lately seaped undearneath the brinks. Now there is a festering swamp of bugs breeding, growing, and chewing my ass alive.
I can complain about this to management, but they won’t do anything and my only hope is to score some points for the next issue that they CAN do something about.
We’ve vowed to stay here for at least the rest of the year, but I’ve already started my wandering eye for a new place to live.
