Me too. Whenever I heard the Chris Brown song, I thought it was strange he used the exact jingle for the gum, but I figured it was just a pop culture reference.
I blame the artist. The artilce I link to says to boycott Wrigley’s, but we need to boycott Chris Brown. We need to steam roll his records in the streets.
Someone has to draw a line. Music isn’t an ad-supported medium like TV or the internet. It (sort of) makes sense for 30 Rock to have the cast holding Coca-Cola. Its not ideal, but it fits television because its been ad supported for fifty years.
To secretly place what could be categorized as a subliminal message into a song chorus is not fair trade and isn’t what I pay for $.99 for. Chris Brown should be ashamed. Its one thing to become a spokesperson. Its one thing to drop a product name during a Leno interview. Its one thing to wear a Wrigley’s tshirt during a performance. But this feels wrong. It feel deceptive.
It feels like music is never going to become something I recognize every again.
