What an amazing collection. Nothing quite moves me like photograph, and this gallery really touched me. Seeing some of these people drop a hand on a total strangers leg, or embrace someone’s children really puts all the petty shit we use to divide us in perspective.
Gallery of sublime photographs by Richard Renaldi, who spent a year asking strangers to be photographed together. They key piece is that they’re always touching in some way. Some people seem like old friends, some seem remarkably uncomfortable, some seem like they could be family or in love, some obviously not so much.
I find myself creating stories for these images, imagining worlds, thinking about the process of the photographer convincing his subjects to participate, wondering if the subjects would ever do it again.
I think about how rare it is we actually meet strangers in such ways, yet how easy it is to imagine that so many of the people in these images could know each other, could sit down for Thanksgiving dinner together.
Fascinating.
