linked-in is rolling out solution that facebook should have to better manage friends
(via ohgodits5pm)
I’ve been of the exact same mind as this article. Managing friends in Facebook is simply too hard. I enjoy making connections with people, even people who are ancillary friends, like many coworkers or former classmates.
I’ve added so many lite connections, that my true friends and loves are missing out. There are a lot of privacy options in Facebook, but none of them work intuitively and I feel like I have to battle through them to set things up the way I want.
To solve the problem, I’ve simply culled through my friend lists or have simply risen the bar of who can be my friend. If you asked me a year ago, I would have said, “Who cares!” if it gets seen it gets seen. I’m not worried about my dirty laundry, its my clean laundry too. My friend’s list includes bosses and future mother-in-laws and all too often, I’m censoring my self for fear of what my seemingly uncontrollable facebook friends might think. If your read Facebook’s literature, you’ll find its all about sharing. Well, I’m not and I know plenty of other folks who aren’t either.
