Twitter says that it now has the ability to censor tweets for specific countries, which allows it to block out content that violates local laws without restricting it to rest of the world. The company says that it will be entering countries that have “different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression” as it expands, and cites France and Germany’s ban on pro-Nazi content as an example of the need for such a feature.via Twitter now able to censor tweets for specific countries | The Verge
You are America! What would you censor?

Google Merges Search and Google Into Social Media Juggernaut
A) Hyperbole much?
B) If I trust my friends or colleagues have something to say about something, I’d just ask them about it.
C) Search is working just fine. Please leave it alone.
D) Stop announcing shit if it isn’t available to everyone.
Liking something on Facebook with a hint of irony becomes problematic when they actually start marketing to you.
Social Media: Evolving From Long Form To Push Button
In the evolution of social media over the last decade, the trend has been a move from long form content, which has high friction of participation (both on the production and consumption side) to ever lower requirements placed on a user to participate in a conversation. If I were tumblr I’d be so insulted by this article. Pinterest is del.icio.us with pictures. Tumblr is community and expression in a way that is genuinely unique on the internet, at a scale that is completely unmatched. Articles like this are one more reason I have so much disdain for most Silicon Valley trend bloggers.
NO ONE IS ON PATH!
You know how I know? It’s because I’m on Path and no one wants to play with me. The only friends I have on Path are both in SF, so yeah, there you go.
Also, where’s Google+?

Twitter is updating again.
In other news, I can’t stand these hyper-realized people that tech companies put into their commericals. These white, well-to-do, super-active, super-interesting, weirdos that spend their online time comforting one another or talking about their incredible interests and hobbies.
I want the commercial for the person that watches Housewives reality series and snarks constantly in twitter with profane language and poor grammar.
I want the people tweeting and retweeting what trending topic has “n***a* in the title.
I want someone other than some thin white guy talking to pretty white girls about their pretty fucking lives.
I have to give Path some kudos for having a non-blue logo.

Tumblr is really, really white. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the gender split lean towards men before either. It strikes me as odd because my experience suggests otherwise.

Posterous Swaps Blog Platform for Social Network
From the article, emphasis is mine:
Instead of proffering users a blogging platform or a groups product, Posterous has become its own bona fide social network — a Facebook with an emphasis on private sharing or a Google with Spaces instead of Circles, if you will. You may even see a strong resemblance to Tumblr, though Posterous might fight you on that comparison.
“We’re building this for normal users,” says Agarwal. “This is how normal users want to share.”
What does that even mean?
Facebook Makes Massive Privacy & Tagging Changes
“Facebook is launching one of the largest privacy overhauls in its history. The initiative will make it clearer with whom you’re sharing photos, status updates and locations.”

Tom at MySpace gives free advice to Google+
And it’s good advice too.
I’m officially too social online
Between Twitter, Facebook, Plus, Tumblr, work Tumblr, Words with Friends, Foursquare, work message boards, Yammer, I’ve exhausted every honest, interesting thing I have to say.
Sorry folks. I used to be an all right guy. Now I’m a social media zombie.
Send help.
Playing with Google+
It’s easily the best social network Google has produced.
Circles is great. Google Chat is integrated and works great. Sharing in solid. Sparks is kind of lame.
No one is on it yet, so it’s a ghost town.
Google Plus
Really want to start fooling around with this.
Awww, Tumblr, don’t look at me like that. You know I love you the most.
