No illusions please: This bill will not be repealed. Even if Republicans scored a 1994 style landslide in November, how many votes could we muster to re-open the “doughnut hole” and charge seniors more for prescription drugs? How many votes to re-allow insurers to rescind policies when they discover a pre-existing condition? How many votes to banish 25 year olds from their parents’ insurance coverage? And even if the votes were there – would President Obama sign such a repeal?
We followed the most radical voices in the party and the movement, and they led us to abject and irreversible defeat.

Don’t let them hoodwink you.
From the Washington Post:
Addressing seniors in the audience, Obama said, “There is no cutting of your guaranteed Medicare benefits, period. No ifs, ands or buts. This proposal makes Medicare stronger, it makes the coverage better, and it makes the finances more secure. And anybody who says otherwise is either misinformed or they’re trying to misinform you. Don’t let them hoodwink you.”
Reform. Reform. Reform. That’s all I want. I want to attempt to fix something that’s broken for so many Americans. Opponents are trying to stop the forward motion of our society and they are lying. Don’t let them hoodwink you.

The National Geographic compares health care costs: on the left is health care spending per person, and on the right, average life expectancy. A line that slopes down from left to right indicates relative inefficiency, while a line sloping up from left to right indicates a relatively efficient system.

In a speech on the Senate floor, Reid (D-Nev.) blasted Republicans for opposing the Finance Committee’s measure, accusing GOP leaders of aiming to be “partisan protesters” rather than “productive partners.
And he’s not just saying that.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report yesterday that evaluated all the health care reform plans floating around right now.
Obama’s plan was found to do two things:
- Decrease the amount of the uninsured.
- Decrease the deficit.
If you hear anything else leading up to the next vote you are being lied to. If someone presents contrary data, it is not the by the Congressional Budget Office.
This doesn’t mean the bill isn’t flawed or needs work. I just wanted to make it clear what it does, before the hate machine rears its head again.
