Mad Thoughts

Jason Cooper is, professionally, an Online Community Coordinator for kaboom.org. Personally, he is a Detroit to DC transplant, and all around B.M.F. He secretly wants to be an internet celebrity.

I only have a short window of appeal here so I will always try to make the most of it.
Messages continue to come across my dash of “I’m bored!” and plenty of rants of boring classes and professors and awful job-related existences.  Please go out into the world or the Internet and find what interests you, what inspires you, and VOLUNTEER.
There is so much work to be done.
As the founder/executive director of two nonprofit orgs I ask you to: Be a “real” volunteer, and not a “faux volunteer” made mandatory from a sorority or fraternity or because employers favor it on your resume.
Be a PART of life. Volunteer.  Make a difference. Volunteer…Because you CARE.  Because you CAN.
Thank you.

Why not try building a playground? Find a playground project in your hood.

"What we care about is deepening the level of connection our followers have with each other and with us,” said Darell Hammond, KaBOOM! founder. “Over time they may become donors. For now, we want people we can move from interest in the cause to action."

This happens at KaBOOM! at least once a year. Last year, a little girl raised $1,000 selling paper fans to people in her church and donated it to KaBOOM!. Kids are a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
whatevermethinks:

Children can be amazing.
jen22201:Definitely awesome

One of the greatest donations we’ve ever received.
This is so awesome.

Shameless Self Promotion

Thanks to everyone who already has, but voting ends tomorrow on my SXSWi panel. Get the deets and vote here: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/ideas/view/5017. Its a hot panel! Literally, its trending in the top 60.

This is your chance to get on the ground floor of my rising star! You can say you knew me when I was just a kid with a Tumblr, a national non-profit that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child, and a dream!

Or you can blame me for helping SXSWi jump the shark— either way, go vote now!

The panel is called Can Double-Clicking Change The World? Slacktivism 101 and it addresses whether particpating in social media and communities is “true activism”.

Its an important debate and I’m really proud to have been invited to speak on behalf of KaBOOM!.
